Mill Valley Film Festival 45 will take place on October 6-16, 2022 and the event will be held in-theater and online. Two Swedish films will be presented, the documentary Searching for Sugarman and Boy from Heaven.

Searching for Sugarman
Director: Malik Bendjelloul

Sixto Rodriguez was a Detroit folksinger who had a short-lived recording career in the early 1970s with only two well received but non-selling albums. His musical story continued in South Africa, where he became a pop music icon and inspiration for generations. Rodriguez, sometimes called the “Sugar Man” after one of his songs, became a hero. Malik Bendjelloul’s Oscar®-winning documentary tells the uplifting story of how one person, unknown to himself, can inspire a people.

But, on the first day back after the summer holidays, the grand imam collapses and dies in front of his students. This marks the start of a ruthless battle for influence to take his place and the student finds himself pulled into a cascade of murders, conspiracies, and paranoia.
