San Francisco Dance Film Festival 2018

San Francisco Dance Film Festival presents the world premiere of Play Serious by filmmaker T. M. Rives about Alexander Ekman's trials and tribulations creating Play for the Paris Opera Ballet by filmmaker T. M. Rives. Other Swedish films include Alexander Ekman's Study in Creativity and Ekman's Concise Guide to Natural Movement, a short dance film he created in San Francisco earlier this year.

Play Serious
Filmmaker T.M. Rives follows the trials and tribulations of Alexander Ekman's process creating his ambitious and successful new work, Play, for the Paris Opera Ballet. With the Bay Area Premiere of the short narrative Sirens Tango by Bay Area filmmaker Lisa Le Lievre, featuring SF Ballet Principal Dancers Sasha De Sola and Luke Ingham. Alexander Ekman and members of the Sirens Tango cast will be in attendance. Mr Ekman will give a Q&A on the podium directly following the screening.

Brava Theater Kickoff: Double Play
Four days at the Brava Theater Center kick off with a double-feature event exploring the theme of creativity and play. Featured films include the North American Premiere of Creative: Alexander Ekman's Study in Creativity and Base Ballet: Into the Game. The program will conclude with a special live performance by Ben Needham-Wood and guest.

In a new documentary, award-winning choreographer Alexander Ekman dives into the subject of creativity-where it comes from, and whether or not it's possible to contain and understand it-by meeting scientists, professors, artists, film directors, and choreographers, with the goal of trying to understand every aspect of the phenomenon.

Discofoot
Get your funk on! Get down and boogie! Bust a groove! Discofoot is a DJ spinning, maybe even twerkin' free styling battle, where soccer's rules are twisted and thrashed by dance. A modern dance piece created by former artistic director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley. Performed by the Ballet de Lorraine.
