Max von Sydow: The Best Stradivarius

The University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) and the California Film Institute present the virtual film retrospective Max von Sydow: The Best Stradivarius on March 5 - May 10.

A tribute to Swedish actor Max von Sydow, who died in 2020, featuring some of his great work with film directors Ingmar Bergman, Jan Troell, and Bille August. A number of guest presenters will join the online conversations:

March 12: University of California, Berkeley Professor Linda H. Rugg

April 2: Director/cinematographer Jan Troell and Agneta Ulfsäter-Troell
April 9: Katinka Faragó
April 27: Actor/director Liv Ullmann

The special package features access to all six films and the livestream conversations in the Max von Sydow: The Best Stradivarius series. The titles include The Magician (with Linda H. Rugg), The Emigrants (with Jan Troell and Agneta Ulfsäter-Troell), Pelle the Conqueror and The Passion of Anna (with Liv Ullmann), Hour of the Wolf, and The Seventh Seal. Tickets for single film screenings are also available.

All conversations will remain available from their respective air dates through May 10. The six films are available for the duration of the streaming spotlight series, March 5 through May 10.
