Thunderstruck by Stina Nyberg

25 Apr 2019, 12.00 AM

Swedish choreographer and performer Stina Nyberg fuses showmanship and science for the US premiere of Thunderstruck, a high-voltage live electricity solo show.

SAN FRANCISCO
In Thunderstruck, the figure of the genius, artist-inventor, and madman Nikola Tesla reemerges in Stina Nyberg's Goddess of electricity. She mixes intimate storytelling with growling dances and death-defying encounters with the singing Tesla coil on stage, piercing melodies across the metal drones composed by Maria W Horn. In the intersection between art, science, and political utopia, this performance makes guts vibrate and wonders appear.

When: April 25-26 at 8 pm
Where: CounterPulse, 80 Turk Street, San Francisco

PALO ALTO
Stanford Live presents Thunderstruck Project's Alternating Currents, an intermedial electricity concert choreographed and performed by Maria W Horn, Stina Nyberg, and a frequency-controllable Tesla coil. Through flashing lightning bolts, the Tesla coil creates a sound which resembles distorted trance synths threading piercing melodies through ozone-filled air.
