On Friday, June 22, the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival will once again take place in Battery Park City in downtown Manhattan.
At this unique celebration, adults and children come together to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music. The festival includes both Robert F. Wagner Park and the adjoining Pier A Plaza.
The program features traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and special guests from Dalarnas Fiddlers Association in Sweden, folk dances with Barnklubben Elsa Rix, as well as folk dancing led by Scandinavian folklorist and singer Ross Sutter.
Food stands offer delicacies from New York's finest Swedish restaurants and food purveyors.
