An ongoing partnership between local textile pioneers, Rewoven, the Swedish Institute and the Embassy of Sweden returns with its third edition of the Future of Fashion Indaba.
The Future of Fashion Indaba is scheduled to take place on 20 November 2021, in-person and virtually for free. In kilt with #FoF2021’s three pillars: Education, Business and Culture & Storytelling, this year’s theme is centred around Ubuntu and Fashion – The Shared Economy and the Future of Fashion.
The shared-economy is undoubtedly the future of circular and ethical fashion. Critical in it’s realisation and a more sustainable future is the formation of ecosystems, the efficient use and sharing of resources and a global sense of interconnectedness. Sharing, ecosystems and a sense of community are pivotal to African culture and society, or as we call it – Ubuntu. This is an African social philosophy with reciprocity and harmony with all life at its core – all with the aim of building and maintaining community with justice and mutual caring.
Reflecting on this year´s theme for the Indaba, HE Ambassador Håkan Juholt: "When as a company you ask yourself the question – do I want to be the last one out of the old linear way of producing clothes or do I want to be amongst the first into the new circular way? Despite of your decision, change is inevitable and its up to you to lead your company or industry in the right direction – let us be inspired by Ubuntu".
Join us this year as we explore how the principles of Ubuntu can lead us to a circular and ethical future of fashion. Ubuntu can be seen as a social and cultural phenomenon or philosophy, but also as legitimate knowledge that can teach us the harmonic intelligence required to re-imagine and create a socially inclusive, environmentally just and economically sustainable local clothing industry.
This year attendees can look forward to an eventful line-up of circular fashion-focused activities. These will include curated masterclasses with Swedish and South African experts, designer showcase, marketplace, and panel discussion.
