Lockdown in South Africa
24 Mar 2020
The Embassy of Sweden in South Africa recommends Swedes in South Africa who want to return to Sweden to urgently contact their travel agency/airline and their insurance company to arrange for a return to Sweden as soon as possible. We are aware that it may be a long wait for those calling their airlines, but we also know that many have gotten through and managed to reschedule their flights.
The Embassy is making every effort to find out what the national lockdown will mean for Swedes in South Africa wanting to depart the country. The Embassy will post updates on the Embassy website as well as on our social media as soon as information becomes available.
The national lockdown which enters into force at midnight (between Thurs and Fri) will have a substantial effect on the Embassy’s capacity to carry out normal operations. The Embassy will however remain available for phone calls and emails from Swedes in urgent need of assistance and has added more staff members to the team responding to questions. We are working hard to provide the best possible service to Swedes in South Africa during this time.
