The Future of Fashion Symposium puts the spotlight on Sustainability

Johannesburg - A partnership between local fashion sustainability movement, Rewoven, the Swedish Institute and Team Sweden in South Africa is aiming to share solutions and create partnerships that will facilitate the growth and development of a sustainable fashion industry in South Africa.

VENUE: Victoria Yards, 16 Viljoen St, Lorentzville, Johannesburg



The event will feature masterclasses, exhibitions -  featuring ground breaking sustainable designs from  the Arte Botanica  event held at Nirox which include celebrated slow fashion enthusiast and Swedish costume designer Nina Sandtröm, and panel discussions from local and Swedish innovators in sustainability. It is open to key stakeholders in the fashion industry: government and policy; clothing manufacturers and suppliers, clothing retailers, fashion designers, academia (fashion schools and students) and influencers.


Event context:

The movement towards sustainable fashion is becoming imminent across the globe due to the fashion industry’s harsh impact on both people and the environment.  Despite this growing momentum, many stakeholders in the ecosystem consumers, manufacturers, designers, government, academia etc. still find it difficult to forge a way towards a more sustainable industry.


There are many barriers to this necessary goal and the Future of Fashion aims to apply a global and locally relevant perspective to unpacking the issues.
