Accept all Only criticalThe Ambassador of Sweden, Z.E. mr. Johannes Oljelund handed over his credentials to HRH King Willem-Alexander at Noordeinde Palace on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. This marks the start of his official assignment in the Netherlands.
“The Netherlands is very important to Sweden, especially as an ally in the EU and in the areas of innovation and sustainability. I look forward to further developing our excellent relationship and strengthening our strategic cooperation to meet shared challenges.” says Johannes Oljelund. Sweden has maintained diplomatic relations with the Netherlands for more than 400 years.
Until his appointment as ambassador, Johannes Oljelund was Director General for International Development Cooperation at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a member of the Peacebuilding Fund Advisory Group of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and emphasizes that multilateral cooperation in the field of peacebuilding is also an area in which the Netherlands and Sweden can further strengthen their cooperation. He previously worked as Chief of Staff of the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate and at the Swedish embassies in South Africa and Estonia. He is married and has three children.
Sweden has diplomatic relations with almost all States in the world. It has embassies and consulates in around half of these. Sweden's foreign representation consists of approximately 100 missions abroad and 350 honorary consulates.
