The Swedish Institute provides grant to boost the Swedish language instruction in Latvia

To honor the 100-year anniversary of Latvia’s independence, the Swedish Institute (SI) is providing a grant to further aid the instruction of the Swedish language at three universities in Latvia.

The grants of 100.000 SEK each will be given to Daugavpils University, the University of Latvia and the Latvian Academy of Culture.

The grants are to be used to offer teachers and students the opportunity to travel to Sweden, to pay for teaching materials as well as to cover the costs for guest lectures and other Sweden-related events.

“SI is the authority in Sweden responsible for the promotion of academic teaching of Swedish language and literature abroad. Today we cooperate with 225 universities around the world. The teaching of Swedish language and culture in Latvia contributes to continued good relations between our two countries. We are happy to provide these grants to further boost the language instruction in the region and look forward to continued cooperation” says Monika Wirkkala, Head of Talent Attraction Unit at SI.
