Temporary position as Assistant Political and Communications Officer

The Embassy is seeking an Assistant Political and Communications Officer for a temporary full-time employment from 1 July 2021 until 30 April 2023.

The Embassy of Sweden in Riga is part of a world-wide network of around 100 Swedish diplomatic missions and our task is to represent Sweden, the Swedish Government and to promote Sweden in Latvia. The Embassy provides government services to the public and handles consular and official matters for Swedish citizens. The Embassy has 13 employees.

The Embassy is seeking an Assistant Political and Communications Officer for a temporary full-time employment from 1 July 2021 until 30 April 2023. One main component of the job is communication, Sweden promotion, coordination and reporting of projects. The other is analysis and reporting on Latvian, EU and international issues. The Assistant Political and Communication Officer also supports the work of the posted staff in the above areas according to the priorities of the Embassy.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • External communication. For example, producing content for the Embassy’s social media, preparing press releases, outreach to local media, writing speeches etc.
  • Keep the Embassy staff updated on local developments relating to Swedish foreign policy priorities.
  • Analysis of domestic political developments and reporting on them in English.
  • Coordinate and manage the contacts and reporting of prioritized promotion activities such as projects, events, visits.

The Assistant Political and Communications Officer is expected to daily monitor Latvian and Russian language media and keep the embassy staff updated on current events in Latvia. The role of managing contacts of prioritized promotion activities will include having a broad network of contacts with Latvian counterparts. An open mind attitude to the job is needed.  

Requirements:

  • University Degree in Politics, Economics, or related field
  • Fluency in Latvian and Russian as well as excellent command of English, both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with Swedish society is an advantage but not a prerequisite
  • Good knowledge of and experience in communication and social media as well as the local media environment
  • Good knowledge of Latvian society and politics
  • Experience of working with projects and project reporting is an advantage
  • Strong analytical skills
  • High computer literacy

The position is a temporary full-time employment, and we apply individual gross salaries from € 1200-1400. The Embassy offers 28 calendar days annual leave, medical insurance and a fitness contribution. 

The working hours are from 8:30 to 17:00 except for June to August when we work until 16:00. We expect the new staff member to take up his/her position 1 July  2021. Probationary employment during the first three months applies.
