Remake the City II: Call for Applications

Apply to become part of our Remake the City: Dialogues on Urban Development to combat Climate Change

The project is based on the idea of providing the platform for young architects, sociologists, artists, civil engineers, environmentalist and those working in the field of urban development from various backgrounds to share their solutions and aspirations for their cities. The dialogue between ideas, innovations and solutions is the base of this activity.


Criteria:

  • Age Range: 22 – 35
  • You must be able to communicate skillfully in English languag
  • Nationality: Applicants must come from the following countries: Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Libya, Tunis, Algeria, Morocco and EU


How to Apply:

  1. Choose one of the following themes:
    • Sustainable Transportation: transforming cities transportation trends from motorized to non-motorized transportation
    • Preserving the Urban Fabric: Creating climate resilient cities while preserving the city’s architectural heritage
    • Promoting Sports and Use of Public Spaces: Promoting use of public space and increasing accessibility to public spaces and the urban sphere.
  2. Send us a pen portrait, it should show your experiences in one of the workshop themes. It should also show your research and professional competences. Your pen portrait should explain why we should select you to be one of this project's participants.

Dates:

  • 11-17 July: Call for application
  • 17-22 July: Response on selection
  • 09 September: Arrival in Alexandria, Egypt
  • 13 September: End of programme and departure

A total of 25 applicants will be selected to attend the programme in Alexandria.

Selection process:


Only selected applicants will be notified via email.

Swedish Institute Alexandria will select 25 participants from all over the MENA region and EU to attend the activity in Alexandria, the selected applications will be notified via email/phone call.


Information about the Programme:

Swedish Institute Alexandria is inviting creative and talented architects, artists, civil engineers, environmentalists, urban specialists to apply and participate in the second phase of "Remake the City" programme on the topic of "Dialogues on Urban Development".

The school will take place from 10-13 September 2018 at the Swedish Institute Alexandria with the aim of creating a regional network of young researchers in the area of resilient cities and communities with a focus on cultural heritage preservation, sustainable transportation and sustainable urban planning.

The summit will introduce the solutions created by the participants to policy makers and academics from the MENA region

The project aims to present dialogue as a tool for development and finding solutions. During the project, ideas are to be shared and exchanged to identify new and creative solutions for the challenge of how to make cities climate resilient through creating platforms for dialogue and exchange between young people from different backgrounds.

  • Create a network of young architects, artists, civil engineers, environmentalist and social scientists particularly those working in the field of urban development with a climate change perspective from the various back grounds across the MENA region
  • Provide the skills and tools for sharing and communicating solutions between various stakeholders
  • Learn new ways on how to convey their ideas and solution to their own societies and the decision makers
  • Experience new successful models and experiences in making cities resilient through innovate approaches


Costs:

Swedish Institute Alexandria will cover all the costs of the participation, travel and accommodation for participants.
