Passport and ID card in Shanghai

You can apply for a Swedish ordinary passport or emergency passport and national ID card at the Consulate General in Shanghai. If you apply for a passport at the Embassy in Beijing or at another passport authority, you can choose to retrieve the passport at the Consulate General in Shanghai at the time of application.

Application of passport or retrieving a passport at the Consulate General is only available by appointment. The Consulate General's office hours for passport matters are Tuesdays at 09:00-11:30 and Wednesdays at 13:30-16:00. For booking requests, send an email to generalkonsulat.shanghai@gov.se

Everyone who applies for a passport and ID card at the Consulate General must fill in the form Verification of Swedish citizenship in advance. Download the form below, fill in and print before your visit to the Consulate General.

Please note that the applicant is responsible to prove his/her citizenship. If you have become a Swedish citizen by application, you may be asked to present the Swedish Migration Agency's Decision of Swedish citizenship. You can pay the application fee by bank or credit card. Please note that the Consulate General does not accept payment via WeChat or Alipay.

Passports and ID cards are produced in Sweden and sent to the Consulate General. Normal delivery time is between 3-4 weeks after the application has been granted. When the passport is ready to be retrived, an automatic email will be sent to the provided email address. You can then go ahead and book an appointment for retrieving a passport through the link below. Bring valid passport.
