The Embassy of Sweden in BiH strongly condemns hate crimes against members of the LGBTIQ community

The Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina strongly condemns the recent hate crimes against members of the LGBTIQ community after the announcement of the first ever Pride March taking place in Sarajevo in September 2019. The most recent incident was on Friday April 26 when a lesbian couple, including a Swedish citizen, was attacked in the central part of Sarajevo. We call on the authorities to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators.

LGBTIQ persons are entitled to live free from discrimination and in equality with all other citizens. We look forward to participating in the Sarajevo Pride and we urge the authorities to promote a society free from discrimination and to safeguard citizens' rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. It is the obligation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to respect and protect these fundamental values before and during the Sarajevo Pride.
