WikiGap campaign

Wikimedia Armenia | 4 Arshakuniats (Press building), 4th floor 07 Mar 2020, 11.00 AM

Ahead of the International Women’s Day the Swedish Embassy in Yerevan in cooperation with Wikimedia Armenia will organize a week-long #WikiGap edit-a-thon.

Wikipedia is the world’s largest online encyclopaedia. Its content has the potential to colour our view of the world. But there is a great imbalance on Wikipedia, like in society at large.

There are four times as many articles about men as there are about women. On Wikipedia in Armenia, the picture is the same. 34109 articles about men and 8676 about women and girls.

We want to change this!

Ahead of the International Women’s Day, on 07 March the Swedish Embassy in Yerevan in cooperation with Wikimedia Armenia will organize #WikiGap edit-a-thon in Yerevan. The aim of #WikiGap is to increase the number of articles by and about women, primarily for the more gender equal internet in Armenia and around the world.

Edit-a-thon will take place at Wikimedia Armenia’s office situated in central Yerevan,  address: 4 Arshakunyats Ave, Press House. It will start at 11. 00 AM and last until 18.00 PM. Online editing will continue from March 8 to 14, 2020.
