Wikigap edit-a-thon on Women's day

Embassy of Sweden in Tirana 08 Mar 2018, 12.00 PM - 4.00 PM

On International Women’s Day, March 8 2018, the Swedish Embassy in Albania in cooperation with the human rights news Project “Historia Ime” and the help of the Albanian Wikipedia Group will organize the first series of #WikiGap edit-a-thon on Albanian women on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is the world’s largest online encyclopaedia. Its content has the potential to colour our view of the world. But there is a great imbalance on Wikipedia, like in society at large.

There are four times as many articles about men as there are about women. On Wikipedia in Albania, the gender gap is even bigger. Only 15% of the 9,271 published articles, are about women and girls. This means that information about men is six times larger.
We want to change this!

This activity will be held simultaneously in three cities: Tirana, Fier and Shkodra.

If you are in one of these cities (Tirana, Fier, Shkodra) and you want to join this initiative to contribute about Albanian women in art, activism, science and business, we invite you to register here by March 5 2018. The number of participants is limited to 10 per city.

Who can participate?

All young people interested, students and young activists who want to contribute to narrowing the gender gap on the internet and strengthening the women’s representation on the online encyclopaedia. We encourage the participation of girls, young people from rural areas, young people with disabilities, LGBT youth, Roma & Egyptian youth etc.
