The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since 2006 advised against all travels to Afghanistan due to security reasons. As a result of further deterioration in the security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all Swedes who are in Afghanistan to leave the country on 5 August 2021.

A recommendation means that there are very limited opportunities for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Swedish embassy to help Swedish travelers within the country. Since 16 August 16, the Swedish embassy in Kabul is operating from Stockholm and cannot assist citizens with issuing provisional passports, applying for coordination numbers for newborn children or investigating paternity cases. We urge you to contact another Swedish embassy that handles matters related to Afghan citizens. More information about the respective embassy can be found at www.swedenabroad.com.

Swedes who are in Afghanistan and wish to leave, please follow developments and the security situation in the country closely and make their own assessment of their options to leave.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry hotline can be reached around the clock on phone number +46 (0)8 405 50 05.
