    Hay-on-Wye 31 May - Hay Festival

Swedish Children’s Culture at Hay Festival

On Friday the 31st of May, Sweden is coming to Hay-on-Wye!

Our Embassy on wheels will be driving through the Welsh countryside and making a stop at Hay Festival for a full day of activities around Swedish children’s culture. A number of authors, illustrators and performers will be leading a range of workshops for children aged 4 and upwards on the theme of children changing the world.

In Sweden, children and young people are recognised as an important part of society. Swedish children’s culture is open-minded and doesn’t shy away from difficult topics. This has fostered a generation of young people who express their opinions, are listened to and speak up to claim their rights, from Pippi Longstocking to Greta Thunberg.

Join us to explore the power and potential of children changing the world, together with author Emma Karinsdotter, illustrator Cecilia Heikkilä and performer Sara-Jane Arbury.

    • Pop over for some Swedish "fika" (cinnamon buns, biscuits, lingonberry juice and more).
    • Meet some of our sponsors – Scania UK, Fjällräven, Handelsbanken, IKEA, Stena Line and Vattenfall.
    • Participate in our "tipspromenad" (quiz) with a chance to win a piece of Sweden.
    • Ask about Sweden, Swedish-British collaborations, Swedish culture, businesses, language...
