When you apply for a visa you normally need to pay a visa fee, submit your photo, fingerprints and submit supporting documents to your application. On this page you can read more about these requirements and if you may be exempted from them.
The Swedish Embassy in Lusaka will not handle any Schengen visa applications or reply to any emails concerning Schengen visas.
New visa code and new application fees
A new visa code for Schengen visas entered into force 2 February 2020. There is also a new application fee (80 EUR and 40 EUR for 6 to 12-year-olds). There is also a new application form that you will find below.

If your visa will be refused for any reason or if you will be denied entry at the border to Schengen you will NOT be refunded. You take the risk when applying and have a responsibility to keep yourself updated on the Schengen regulations and entry ban. Online applications are not possible from Zambia. Exemptions from Schengen visa fees
Please note VFS Service fee that there is no exemption or reimbursement of VFS service fee.
The following categories of persons are exempted from the visa fee, in accordance with Article 16 of the Visa Code:
Children under 6 years (i.e. until the age of 6 minus 1 day). No fee (Gratis)
School pupils, students (university) and their accompanying teachers for purpose of education/studies. No fee (Gratis)
Postgraduates scholars for purposes of research. No fee (Gratis)
Students who have been awarded scholarships from Sida or other Swedish or international organizations such as the EU or UN organizations. No Fee (Gratis)
Representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or younger participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations. No fee (Gratis)
Holders of diplomatic and service passports, (on official travel). No fee (Gratis)
Family members of EU*/EEA citizens who fall under the scope of the Directive 2004/38/EC on the right of citizens of the Union and their family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States No fee (Gratis).
When you are applying for a visa at VFS in Zambia, you will be required to submit fingerprints and have your photograph taken. The following categories of persons are exempted from the requirement to submit fingerprints:
- Children under the age of 12
- Persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible
- Heads of State or government and members of a national government with accompanying spouses, and the members of their official delegation when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organisations for an official purpose;
- Sovereigns and other senior members of a royal family, when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organisations for an official purpose.
- Persons who have submitted their fingerprints for the purpose of a Schengen visa application during the last 59 months

You always need to submit an travel insurance covering medical costs of at least EUR 30,000 and be valid for the whole duration of stay and in all Schengen states. The insurance also needs to cover health costs related to Covid19.
