Requirements for Kenyan

When you apply for a visa you normally need to pay a visa fee, submit your photo and fingerprints and submit supporting documents to your application. On this page you can read more about these requirements and if you may be exempted from them. All applications should be submitted to the Embassy´s external service provider, VFS Global.

The Migration Section will have limited staff due to the COVID- 19 pandemic resulting to delayed possibilities to handle residence permit cases.

Notably, visa cases will be handled within 15 calendar days, or longer if motivated (in accordance to the visa code) . Emails and phone calls will be handled as usual.

New visa code and new applications fees

A new visa code  for Schengen visas enters into force 2 February 2020. There is a new application fee (80 EUR and 40 EUR for 6 to 12-year-olds). There is also a new application form 

 

Visa fee

The  visa application fee should be paid to VFS's bank account if you apply at VFS, and to the Embassy if you submit your application directly to us. For details on payments to VFS, kindly visit VFS Kenya's website.

Exemptions from Schengen visa fees

Please note VFS Service fee that there is no exemption or reimbursement of VFS service fee.

The following categories of persons are exempted from the visa fee, in accordance with Article 16 of the Visa Code:

Children under 6 years (i.e. until the age of 6 minus 1 day). No fee (Gratis)

School pupils, students (university) and their accompanying teachers for purpose of education/studies. No fee (Gratis)

Postgraduates scholars for purposes of research. No fee (Gratis)

Students who have been awarded scholarships from Sida or other Swedish or international organizations such as the EU or UN organizations. No Fee (Gratis)

Representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or younger participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations. No fee (Gratis)

Holders of diplomatic and service passports, (on official travel). No fee (Gratis)

Family members of EU*/EEA citizens who fall under the scope of the Directive 2004/38/EC on the right of citizens of the Union and their family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States No fee (Gratis).

 

Biometrics

When you apply for a visa at VFS or the Embassy, you will be required to submit fingerprints and have your photograph taken. The following categories of persons are exempted from the requirement to submit fingerprints:

- Children under the age of 12

- Persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible

- Heads of State or government and members of a national government with accompanying spouses, and the members of their official delegation when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organisations for an official purpose;

- Sovereigns and other senior members of a royal family, when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organisations for an official purpose.

- Persons who have submitted their fingerprints for the purpose of a Schengen visa application during the last 59 months
