I have been placed in quarantine/self-isolation, can the MFA or the embassy help me?

The MFA does not decide over other countries’ laws and regulations. Disease control provisions vary from country to country. The MFA always urges Swedes abroad to comply with the country’s local laws.

I have no money to pay for board and lodging during the time I have been placed in quarantine – can the MFA or Embassy help me?

It is primarily the authority in the country that took the decision on quarantine that is responsible for the people who have been placed in quarantine. If you have travelled with a travel operator and have been placed in quarantine in one of the operator’s hotels, you should contact your travel operator. Consular financial assistance does not include loans for board and lodging or for a continued stay abroad.

I require medicines – can the MFA or the embassy help me?

Contact local medical care service or the authority that is responsible for the quarantine decision. The MFA or embassies cannot provide you with medicines from Sweden.

Is the MFA urging Swedes to travel home?

All Swedes who are abroad should review their own situation. It may, for example, sometimes be best not to travel at all for some time to come. Travellers must adapt to the situation and accept a certain degree of uncertainty. Many travellers may be forced to remain abroad until air traffic gets underway again. Travel agencies and airlines are trying to bring everyone affected home. This is a decision the individual must take.

Will the MFA help Swedes return home?

How is my homeward journey affected by other countries’ entry procedures?

Your airline should be able to provide information about your entire journey. You can also visit in the Embassy of Sweden in the country in which you transfer flights or arrive at.

I have caught COVID-19 abroad – what should I do?

Follow the advice of the local authorities, which you can find on the Embassy’s travel information. You should also contact your insurance company’s emergency services centre.
