Testing and quarantine on arrival to the UK

Travel to England

A traffic light system for international travel currently applies in the UK. Sweden is placed on the "amber" list. More information on the UK government website.

If you’re traveling from Sweden, and have not travelled in a country on the banned (red) list in last 10 days, you must:

  • Take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test and get a negative result during the 3 days before you travel
  • Book and pay for a travel test package, which will include COVID-19 tests to be taken on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of your quarantine
  • Complete a passenger locator form with details of where you will home quarantine when you arrive and the travel test package booking reference number. Link to the web form.

Full details about quarantine and testing here.

Test to release and exemptions:

  • You can pay for a Covid test five days after arrival in or der to shorten your quarantine. Read more here. You must still take the test on day 8 of your quarantine
  • Some jobs qualify for travel exemptions, find out more here

If your stay in the UK last for less than 10 days, you will need to self-isolate for the full 10 days.

You are responsible for organising your own COVID-19 test, in line with UK government testing requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure the test meets the minimum standards. You must check the UK government's website for full details about the tests.

Exemption from self-isolation for fully vaccinated travellers from Sweden

UK residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the UK, and who are returning to England from amber list countries (including Sweden), are exempt from self-isolation upon arrival.

The exemption also covers travellers to England from some amber-list countries (including Sweden), who have been fully vaccinated in Europe with an EMA-approved vaccine.

Please see the UK government website for further details, as well as guidance on quarantine, testing and being ´fully vaccinated´.

Travellers covered by the abovementioned exemption need to:

  • Take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test and get a negative result during the 3 days before you travel
  • Complete a passenger locator form.
  • Book and pay for a travel test package, which will include a COVID-19 test to be taken on or before day 2

Please note that it is the traveller's responsibility to ensure they meet all the requirements. The Embassy does not assist in interpreting the rules of UK authorities. The Embassy does not issue any travel certificates, nor answer which documentation UK authorities may approve.
