Today, 20 March, Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström presented the Government’s Statement of Foreign Policy following Sweden’s accession to NATO.
NEWSSweden’s embassy in Reykjavik can issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) to citizens of EU member states if the citizen’s member state doesn’t have diplomatic or consular representation in Iceland. The applicant must provide proof that their passport has been lost, stolen, destroyed, or is temporarily unavailable (EU Council decision 95/553/CFSP and 96/409/CSFP). The applicant must provide valid ID to prove citizenship in the EU member state. Prior to issuing the ETD, the embassy must first contact the nearest diplomatic mission representing the applicant’s EU member state to acquire permission to issue the ETD. The fee for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) is 28.000 ISK, to be paid in cash when issued.
In 2014 the Swedish Foreign Ministry made the decision to discontinue the possibility to apply for a passport at the Swedish embassies in Scandinavia as well as in the Baltic countries.
